God our
father and allah: The same
God?
|
The Koran states: 'The Christians say: The Messiah is the
son of Allah; these are the words of their mouths; they
imitate the saying of those who disbelieved before; may
Allah destroy them' (Sura 9:30), or, in another translation:
'Allah's curse be on them.'
Strangely the Catholic Church assures Muslims that
'together with us they adore the one, merciful God'?
(Catechism 841). But our God, the Father, blesses us for
confessing Jesus His Son (Matthew 16:16,17); Islam's Allah
curses us for our faith in the Son. Could the Father and Allah possibly
be the same God?

weeks of October 2006.

READERS' COMMENTS
The Bible tells us Jesus is God (Jn.8:58). Islamics do not believe
this. They believe in a false god. Jean, USA.
No, the God of the bible and Allah are not the same God. Even
though Muslims commonly claim to worship the God of Abraham, they
vehemently deny the essential doctrine of God – that God is a
trinity. The first time the word God is used (Gen 1:1), the Hebrew
word is ‘Elohim’. This is a plural noun, so the verse could
correctly be read, “In the beginning, GODS created the heavens and
the earth.” The Hebrew word ‘Elohim’ is used over 2500 times
in the OLD TESTAMENT. Plainly this is not the God that Muslims
worship. In John 4:24, Jesus said, “God is spirit, and his
worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth." In order to
worship God properly, we must acknowledge who HE is. Muslims do not
worship God in truth. The truth about God is that He is a trinity
consisting of three separate persons – Father, Son and Holy
Spirit, and that salvation is possible only by trusting in Jesus’
atoning work on the cross. Since Muslims do not believe Jesus was
God or that he physically died on the cross for the sins of the
world, they are not worshipping the God of the bible. It is
interesting to note that if you ever engage in dialogue with a
Muslim and ask them about Jesus, they will state that He was prophet
and a good man. When you show them from scripture that Jesus never
claimed to be prophet, but God in flesh, they are left speechless.
Jesus never left the ‘prophet’ option open to us. Either He is
who He said He is or He a liar, or worse, a lunatic. Anna.
The true and living God, the God of Abraham, Isacc and Jacob
could not possibly be the same as Allah. Muslims deny the deity of
Jesus Christ. They deny that he was the son of God. I John 2:22,23
says: Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He
is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. Whosoever
denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: he that acknowledgeth
the Son hath the Father also. John says: Jesus saith unto him, I am
the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but
by me. There is not a god separate and apart from Jesus Christ.
Whosoever denieth Christ does not have the father. As Jesus says to
the disciples, "If ye have seen me, ye have seen the
Father." And as he told the pharisees, "Ye neither know
me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my
Father also." And we could go on. Brian.
God the Father, the Creator of the universe (through Jesus Christ
His Son), has absolutely no relationship, affinity, similarity, or
connection with the contrived, imaginary, and false god of the Islam
religion whom the Moslems call Allah! It is an affront to God and
the Christian faith to even entertain the thought that they could be
considered one and the same. Charles.
Allah is a muslim word and never ever been or will be the true God, he
is a satanic god. When Muhamed was on the mountain and said that he saw
our true god was confused and he was even going to jim and kill
himself. how could the koran be true when muhamed did not now how to
write or read. there never been onoitment of the Holy Spirat. our God
loves the world that he gave his live for us. muhamed was a
rapist and a molester for he married an under age girl. I have dvd
reaching about him and I do know that the Bible says Christ died for
us and sheds his blood to cleans us from sin, not you kill yourself
and others and go to heaven and be rewarded with seven vergins thats
a joke. bless you all. I am born again christian. Alfred, Australia.
Muslims believe that God is The Creator. Strangely enough, so do
Christians. But that's about where are similarity ends. Recognising
God is one thing; worshipping Him is another. Satan is clever enough
to convince people he doesn't exist. And he is even more clever than
that; He can convince people he is God. So, how do you know if you
are worshipping God, and not Satan? I think the answer is clear. Are
you worshiping love (see 1 John 4:8)? Or are you a servant to
hatred? Anonymous, Australia.
I do believe we worship the same God. Although I do believe their
knowledge is obscured and their beliefs are in error. The fact that
they worship the God of Abraham unites them to us, even if it is a
imperfect unity. I do not believe they are following God's will and
I believe their worship is in vain. I also believe that most
Christians worship in vain, even though they will claim to worship
the one true God. God has laid out how he is to be worshiped in the
book of Revelations he gives us a glimpse of the heavenly worship,
how many Churches today worship in that liturgical manner? May God
grant us all the knowledge of true worship. MJ.
There is no way that my Heavenly Father and Allah are the same.
My Father has a Son, His name is Jesus Christ, who died for
my sins. Allah has no son -- they have only "works" or
being a "martyr" in hope of gaining Heaven. My Father
does His Saving with Love and Mercy. Allah does his saving with the
sword and harassment of all who will not bow. Just a short note
about Benedict XVI -- all he has to do is check out what also happen
in the Roman Church, in Spain and Central America, bow or burn.
There is only ONE WAY -- His Name is JESUS CHRIST -- If I believed
otherwise, I am calling GOD a liar, and GOD can not lie. Michael,
USA.
I think we should all try and live together. Edward.
It should be obvious to all that compare the Koran to the Bible
that they are in opposition to each other. I believe the Bible to be
the WORD of GOD. I am convinced both by the things it says and the
changed life I have experienced, as well as the inner wittness of
the Holy Spirit. On the other hand I am convinced by the little
study I have done in the Koran, and th kind of people it produces
that it is not of GOD but from other sources. It seems to be a
complete works oriented system with little freedom for it's
followers. I do not believe Jehovah and allah are the same Person. Fred,
USA.
As we, who have been saved by Gods soverign grace from the power
of darkness and the Roman Catholic systems false form of
Christianity know, not every thing the pope says is incorrect and on
this ocassion I agree with his use of the quote. We are taught in
the scriptures that the truth will set you free and that love will
cover a multitude of sins if the followers of Islam believe that
their faith is correct and they desire that all should follow this
faith and are so zealous to stand up,riot or in some cases die by
suicide resulting in murder of whoever happens to be standing near
them for their faith why should they complain if as Christains we
are being obediant to our Lord and Saviour in the proclamation of
the Gospel and if need be suffer scorn and rejection even death for
our faith.True Christianty will cause offence to the worldling but
faithfullness to the True faith, tolerance combined with love toward
them shold be our goal in life as well as praying for their souls
salvation. Frank, N Ireland.
The Jews also don't believe that Jesus is the Son of God. How
should we react to that? Do what Hitler did? NO! We as Christians
convert by setting a good example of Christian living - NOT by
another Holocaust or Inquisition. GJ.
Oh no, the Muslim god Allah is so far away, unreachable. But our
God lives and leads and conforts us throug His Holy Spirit. Let us,
Christians, explain to them how Jesus became man and still remain
the second Person in the triune God. We believe in one God who
revealed Himself as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Only the love of
God can melt their and our hearts. Hans, Netherlands.
I sure hope people are not confusing God and Allah. Allah is the
moon god from the Kabah in Mecca. Mohammed just picked one of their
idols and made it representative of the only God. The moon god goes
back to Babel. Ultimate fate is in Rev. 17. To worship Allah is to
worship a demon. Demons are back of idols and it is they who
actually receive the worship. But what I do, that I will do, that I
may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion; that wherein
they glory, they may be found even as we. For such are false
apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the
apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed
into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his
ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness;
whose end shall be according to their works. (2 Co 11:12-15). Jim.
Our loving God, Jehovah, the Alpha and Omega, who left his
heavenly throne to come down on earth to redeem us from our sins as
Jesus Christ, is not identical to Allah. Allah is the Moon God. He
was once an image that they worshipped with thousands of other
images, but Muhammad told them, by his hallucination (what I believe
it is), that they should weed out the idols and leave one standing.
It's obvious because even the official Muslim symbol is the moon and
star. These two symbols had always been associated with paganism.
They believe in the sun goddess and the moon god (Allah). I believe
these symbols were a part of astral paganism, as the pre-Muslims
face the east to look at the sun and Mecca (actually it's west). God
is Love. Allah is Hate. The Koran is a book of hate. We are taught
to love, not to hate. To hate is to murder. God is far superior from
having an image because it shows he is the one true God. Joshua.
HOW can Allah and the God of Israel be the same God if the God of
Israel, who adores His Son, gave Him as the ultimate sacrifice for
all of us? Unless, of course, "Allah" is merely the name
in which Muslims refer to the God of Israel, (which we know is not
true. THEN, perhaps they could be the same. However, if their belief
doesn't include the triune which is two thirds made up of Jesus
Christ and the Holy Spirit, "Allah" is simply an ancient,
trumped up notion by the sons of Ishmael. Kaleigh.
Allah is a false god -- another pagan "god" that,
according to Scripture, is really a demon. (1 Corinthians 10:19-21)
I admire the Muslims for their whole-hearted zeal, even though it
sometimes results in persecuting Christians. According to the Bible,
the one thing that makes God nauseated with disgust is lukewarm
Christians. The Bible says that He will vomit them out of His mouth
(in other words, they make him sick) (Revelation 3:15-16). Mary
Ann.
Your making a good point on the updated version of the Catechism.
Where once the Catholics would face to the east and pray for the
conversion of pagans and Mohammedans (Old Latin Missal) - that
language has been omitted from their Novus Ordo Mass and from their
new Catechism. Why? That should be a sticking point for anyone who
truly is a thinking Christian. It begs the question - Why did Jesus
come and establish his church? Why the change in the Catechism???
Why don't the Mohammedans need conversion anymore? The Pope came out
of the gates when elected speaking about the dangers religious
relativism and that same religious relativism he created with his
predecessor JPII in their new catechism (they both participated in
the rewriting of the Catholic Churchs beliefs pointed out by you in
the last observation on Catholicism and Islam). The fruit of that
catechism is a bunch of confused catholics who practice an all
inclusive humanistic religion that looks nothing like their own
church in the hundreds of years prior to 1960. Instead of giving
these muslims respect, the Pope should be giving them the Gospel -
that is the charge which Jesus gave to all of his priests to preach
the Gospel. Something else to ponder - what would Jerry Farwell or
Pat Robertson do if left in a room with "Ambassadors of
Islam" - my guess is that they would preach the gospel to these
pagans - not beg for peaceful dialog. Peaceful dialog has done
nothing since its inception. Christians die every day under Islam
just for being Christian. They still are spreading their false
prophet by the sword. Nothing has changed for them. Gina, USA.
Allah is just another of the "gods" men make for
themselves when their eyes are blinded to the One True God by the
adversary of all mankind. Another one of Satan's imitations, and
another religion preaching its adherents must "do"
something to get to Heaven. Sadly, millions are deceived. Noddy.
"Allah" is the Arabic name for "God". It is
used in the Arabic translation of the Bible. For this reason, we
have to be careful how we deal with the issue of Islam's position.
We need to be outspoken in our condemnation of the violence some
Muslims are promoting and perpetrating. We need to make it clear
that Allah is triune and that God the Son is real and died for them.
We need to insist they respect us for our religious faith. We can
show them respect by never ridiculing their faith or the Quran, but
we should never tolerate violence in the name of Islam. We need to
make sure we distinguish between the Arabic name for God on the one
hand, and the fact that Islam doesn't know God and therefore
presents an inaccurate picture of Who He is, on the other. Remember
that to the Muslim, God is a stranger, Who acts capriciously, but
Who is still said to be merciful. Let us teach them of the goodness,
and the true love and mercy of God! Muslims do not understand God's
mercy, else they would not try to spread Islam through the sword.
Let us show with our lives what true mercy is! Pat, USA.
Could the Father and Allah possibly be the same God? Hardly, I
worship a God of Love, not a god that commands me to kill. Ponilla.
Allah and the Father the same? The catechism doesn't say that.
The catechism says that together with us they adore the one merciful
God. The Church acknowledges that the muslims believe in God. That
does not mean they understand God as we do. The catechism didn't say
that. Muslims worship God. Is their view of God inaccurate? Yes, but
the catechism isn't there to explain what muslims believe, its there
to teach what Catholics believe. The Catholic Church does not judge
hearts. It respects other people and recognizes the good in people
of other faiths. Catholics are to respect the good in others and to
recognize God as Just Judge. We are judged on what we do with what
we have been given. We don't know what individuals have been given,
only God reads hearts. Jesus didn't walk around pointing His finger
at the Gentiles in condemnation. That is not going to convert
anybody. Don't forget the goal. Unity! Priscilla, USA.
I do not think that apathy is the right word to describe the
Christian's reaction to Muslim Scripture, which says that Allah's
curse is upon them. (Sura 9:30) The reason is that the born again
Christian has met God, his sin is forgiven before that God on God's
terms and has experienced the surge of Holy Spirit power in his own
life. He knows he stands on holy ground before God. He also knows
that the statement "Vengeance is mine" comes direct from
that Holy God and we are not called to defend God but to proclaim
Him. Those who reject the forgiveness that God offers need to defend
themselves. 'Allah' does not offer the free gift of love and
forgiveness or the presence of the Holy Spirit in one's life. The
offerings of the two cannot be further apart, so they cannot be the
same God. The product of one is love, comfort and the knowledge of
sins forgiven. The offerings of the other are a final judgement
based on the life lived and none have the assurance they have done
enough good to counter-balance the evil in their own lives. The two
are not one God. Robert, USA.
NO!!!!! Sharon.
Grace and Peace from our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. I have
been thinking about your email on what the Qur'an says about
Christians and our belief in Jesus Christ the Son of God and what
the Church (Catholic) teaches in regards to Islam and the Catholic
faith. There is a non reconcileable chasm as one may say between our
faiths and the statement from the Cathecism really confuses me. I
leave you with the words from the Holy bible, "Who is the liar?
Whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ." Thanks be to God. Anthony.
I am a Christian and I have read the Koran. I found what I read
to be quite disturbing, but it helped to clarify a lot of suspicions
I had about this faith, especially concerning the Jews and the State
of Israel, The God Allah of the Koran is not the True God Yahweh of
the Old Testament as any thorough reading of the Koran will reveal.
Islam is a religion of works and traditions and salvation cannot be
guaranteed unless one dies in a jihad (holy war) The Koran also
states that all people will go to Hell and Allah will decide whether
to rescue some out of the fire. The Holy Scriptures tell us the
opposite, that God does not want any to go to Hell and this is why
he sent His only Beggoten son Jesus, Hebrew = Yeshua meaning
"Salvation" Yahweh = "God is our salvation" Thus
Jesus is"God in the flesh" sent to the earth to save those
who will believe not on the basis of works they do, but on the basis
of faith in Christ the only source of salvation. Terry.
Our God is triune, Allah a single god. Koran condemns the Bible,
Allah had no son (the Koran declares that Allah did not begat a
son), Islam teaches someone else died on the cross not Jesus. Before
Islam's existence, the Sabeans in Arabia worshipped the moon god,
who marries the sun goddess, that gave birth to 3 goddessess, they
were Aluzza, Manat and Allat. They became idols and were worshipped
in Arabia as the daughters of Allah. The moon god was Allah, who was
part of 360 idols of the Kabah (islams holy house of god), in Mecca.
The crescent moon is everywhere in islam. Muhammad knew this he
wanted to create his own religion.Muhammad declared himself the
prophet of Allah, chosing Allah for he knew people worshipped Allah
as moon god the 'one god'. In 1950's there was a find in Palestine
where they discovered a major temple to the moon god. Two moon gods
were found proving that Allah was a pre-islamic pagan deity. There
is a crescent moon on the chest of Allah. The truth is Allah is not
god, Muhammad was no prophet, and the Koran is not the word of God. Janice.
When we consider that Mohammed supposedly received the Koran from the angel
Gabriel in a cave, Galatians 1:8 speaks volumes: "But even if we, or an
angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to
you, let him be accursed." The gospel is the "good news" that
Jesus is the Son of God who died on the cross for our sins, both truths of which
Islam denies. Nevertheless, this gospel remains "the power of God to
salvation for everyone who believes." (Romans 1:16) Yahweh and
"allah" cannot possibly be the same. Let's pray for, and seek to reach
our Muslim friends with the gospel of Christ; knowing that: "He who
believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son
shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him" (John 3:36). Jon,
UK.
Islam came after Christianity and the Catholic Church left the true teaching
of our Lord Jesus and Christianity -- I mean the Protestants and Evangelicals,
lost it's truth and good name because of the Catholic Church. For when the
Muslims were using the sword to spread their faith, the Catholics had not to
copy their example and began the crusades, at least they had the right to defend
themselves. Jesus is himself love and not crusades and that what he taught in
his preaching, to love one another - the fulfilment of the Ten Commandments. He
gave us the example how to love on the cross because of our sins. Love is
humility, which cause unity and covers a multitude of sins, is patient, is kind
not jealous, proud and arrogant, seek not it's own good but even of others, does
not provoke but forgive, rejoice in righteouness and truth, believes all things,
hope and endure all things. As God is eternal, so is his love, which he poured
in the heart of his born again Christians, who has forgiven all their sins for
Jesus shed his blood for their sins. Jesus said to his disciples, he who use the
sword will die with the sword. Knowing how the Muslims behave when someone
offend their religion, it is better not use the sword of the word also, but
follow our Lord's command of love when we meet them. Thomas, Malta.
Allah and God the Father could not be the same. The quote you use from the
Koran is just one obvious example of why. Look further than the label
"Allah" - its definition is the Koran - and clearly that does not
equate to the God as He has revealed Himself to us through His word - the Bible.
Bruce, USA.
Allah (moon god) was worshipped by different Arab cultures thousands of years
before Mohammed invented Islam. The Chaldees named their moon god
"Nannar". In the "Ugaritic" texts the moon god was sometimes
called "Kusuh".Other Arab cultures name the moon god"SIN"
but only in Arabia
was the moon god known as "Allah or Hubal". The God of the Bible is
the "Creator", Whereas the Moon is the Creature. Alex.
Yes they could be in so far as many muslims believe in a Suprem Spirit called
Allah. God knows all things and sees into the hearts and minds of all His
created beings. Some see clearly, others have their vision clouded. The fact that
muslims acknowledge God exists does not mean they know all the truth about Him.
That can only be found in the Catholic faith given to us by Jesus and passed on
by the Popes whom the Holy Spirit, the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity
appointed. Humanists have an agenda which is using the Muslim religion and their
rights to belittle Christian teachings. They make rules against God´s Laws like
abortion and making Homosexuality "Legal" They insist that sex
education which goes against the parents and childrens religious beliefs should
be taught to young children. They encourage discent amongst children and attack
the family in all ways possible by downgrading Marriage. Its time for Christians
every where to stop fighting, turn to the gospel and each and every day TAKE UP
THE CROSS OF CHRIST. Following Jesus´s commands and not individual
preferences. The Holy Spirit guides the Catholic Church through the Popes on
Doctrine & Faith. We would all do well to listen to Him. Myke, UK.
Allah and the God of the Bible can't be the same. In John 4:26, Jesus said to
the Samaritan woman, "I who speak to you am He", in response to her
statement, "I know that Messiah is coming." I learned in Bible study
that the original translation reads, "I who speak to you I AM". This
is the name Jehovah God gave to Moses as His name. The Bible makes it clear that
to reject Jesus Christ is to reject the One who sent Him: the Father. Jesus
said, "No one comes to the Father except by Me." If a Muslim rejects
Jesus as the Son of God, rejects Jesus as "the Word was with God, and the
Word was God", then they are rejecting the One, True, Living, Triune God;
not three gods, but One God eternally existing as the Father, Son, and Holy
Spirit. Does God love Muslims? Yes, "For God so loved the world He gave His
one and only Son, that whosoever believes in Him might not perish, but have
eternal life." He offers them salvation through Jesus Christ, and many
Muslims have come to faith through Jesus Christ. There is no salvation in
"Allah" if he is a god of whom Jesus Christ has no part of. Susan,
USA.
The Quran say's that Allah is not a father and he has no son, does this sound
like our God? Becky, USA.
There is much political correctness which influences people to assume that
all religious groups worship the same God or that God is known by many names. To
any biblically literate person it becomes quickly apparent that such a notion is
simply false and contradictory at best. Muslims themselves acknowledge that
Allah and the God which Christians worship are not the same. In Malaysia before
Muslims took political power it was encouraged by Malaysian Muslims that their
Christian counterparts should use the name “Allah” to refer to the biblical
God. However, when Muslims usurped political power, they made it illegal for
Malaysian Christians to use the name “Allah”! The premise was that the Allah
Muslims worshipped was a peculiar deity to Islam alone. Malaysia understands
this point, why do Christians in the West fail to notice it? If Christians, Jews
and Muslims worship the same God then why do Muslims not treat Christians and
Jews equally as brothers in faith rather than denounce them as “infidels”?
The reason is very simple, Allah is not the God of the Bible. Tony Costa,
Canada.
The Koran claims that Allah is forgiving because he is merciful, (The Cow
2:199). In the Bible we also read of the Father, “There is forgiveness with
thee” (Ps 130:4). Thus we conclude that both Allah and the Father are
forgiving. Does this then mean they are one and the same? Let’s see! On what
basis does Allah forgive sins? He forgives sins based on the repentance of the
penitent (The Immunity 9:104) and his character of mercy and kindness. Allah is,
therefore, to be likened to a Judge who clears a vile, guilty criminal because
the man asks for forgiveness. He repents and says he has changed his mind about
a life of crime. The judge is a kind and forgiving man so he releases the man.
However, this verdict ignores justice. Who pays for the man’s crime? However,
the Father forgives, not only because he is merciful but also because he is
Just. He has given Christ Jesus as a sin offering who has absorbed the wrath of
outraged majesty and justice. The Father’s forgiveness is thus rooted in love
and Justice: Allah’s is not. Thus, they are not one and the same. Miles
McKee. US/Ireland.
