Premarital Sex

Question: Is sex outside marriage wrong?

Answer: Yes, premarital sex is sinful because it ignores and contradicts God's purpose for marriage. Sex is God's holy gift to married partners as a sign and expression of their unity. “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh” (Genesis 2:24).

Sex outside marriage is not fitting; it's like laughter in a funeral, or weeping during a celebration. Even worse, sex before marriage is a lie: the expression of a unity that does not exist.

Adultery is a sexual relation with someone other than your lawful spouse. We should take God’s warning very seriously, “Marriage is honourable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge” (Hebrews 13:4).
